Privacy policy

Effective date: October 11, 2026

This policy explains what information Online Job Applications (“OJA”, “we”, “us”) and the services we use collect when you visit www.online-job-applications.com, how that information is used, and the choices you have. OJA is an independent informational website. We do not take job applications, and we never ask you for a resume, Social Security number, or bank details.

The short version

  • We do not ask you to create an account, and you can read every guide without giving us your name or email.
  • Google shows ads on our pages and uses cookies to do it. Those ads can be based on your visits to this site and other sites.
  • We use Google Analytics and Jetpack Stats to count visits and see which pages help people.
  • If you leave a comment or contact us, we keep what you send so we can reply and publish your comment.
  • You can opt out of personalized ads at any time. Instructions are below.

Information we collect

When you visit, your browser automatically sends technical information to our web host and to the services listed in this policy. This can include your IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, the page you came from, the pages you view, and the date and time of your visit.

If you leave a comment, WordPress collects the name, email address, and website you enter, plus your IP address and browser details to help detect spam. Your email address is never shown publicly.

If you contact us by email or through a form, we receive your email address, your message, and anything else you choose to include.

We do not knowingly collect sensitive information such as Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, health information, or immigration status. Please do not include that kind of information in comments or messages.

Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small text files a website or service stores in your browser. We and our service providers use cookies and similar technologies, such as pixels and local storage, to:

  • Show ads and measure how they perform.
  • Count visits and understand how people use the site.
  • Remember your name and email on the comment form if you ask the site to.
  • Protect the site from spam and abuse.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking cookies may change which ads you see, and some features, like a remembered comment form, may stop working.

Advertising and Google AdSense

We show ads through Google AdSense. This is how the site pays for itself, and it means third parties collect information when you visit.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
  • You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
  • You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info, or through the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page.

Google may allow other ad technology companies to serve or measure ads on our pages. Those companies may also use cookies. To learn how Google uses data from sites like ours, read How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. To learn more about Google’s advertising cookies, read How Google uses cookies in advertising.

If you opt out, you will still see ads. They will be less tailored to your interests.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4, connected through Google Site Kit, to understand how visitors find and use the site. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect information such as pages viewed, time on page, approximate location (city level), device type, and how you arrived. We use this information in aggregate, for example to see which guides people read most. You can prevent Google Analytics from using your data by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Google’s handling of this data is described in the Google Privacy Policy.

We also use Jetpack Stats, a service from Automattic, to count page views. Jetpack Stats processes your IP address, browser details, the referring page, and the pages you view so we can see traffic totals. See the Automattic Privacy Policy for how Automattic handles this data.

Comments and spam protection

Comments are checked by Akismet, an anti-spam service from Automattic. When you submit a comment, your name, email address, website, comment text, IP address, and browser details are sent to Akismet to decide whether the comment is spam. See the Akismet privacy notice.

WordPress may also create an anonymized string (a hash) from your email address and send it to Gravatar, an Automattic service, to show a profile picture next to your comment if you have one. See the Automattic Privacy Policy.

Published comments, including the name you entered, are public. Anyone can read them.

Job listings from Jooble

Some guides show a list of current job openings from Jooble, a third-party job board. These listings are links. No information goes to Jooble until you click one. When you click, you leave our site, and Jooble’s own privacy policy applies. We are not paid for these listings. See the Jooble privacy policy.

Other services that process data

  • Web hosting: our site is hosted by DreamHost, whose servers record standard access logs (such as IP address, page requested, and browser) to run and secure the service. See the DreamHost Privacy Policy.
  • Fonts: some pages load fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser sends your IP address to Google when the font loads.
  • Links to employers: our guides link to employers’ official career sites. When you follow those links, the employer’s privacy policy applies. We do not see what you submit there.

How we use information

  • To run, secure, and improve the site.
  • To show ads that pay for the site.
  • To understand which guides are useful and which need work.
  • To publish and moderate comments.
  • To answer messages and fix errors you report.
  • To comply with the law.

We do not sell your name, email address, or the content of your messages. We do not use your information to make decisions about your job applications, and we do not share it with employers.

Data retention

  • Comments: kept for as long as the comment stays published. Ask us and we will remove a comment you wrote.
  • Messages you send us: kept for as long as we need to handle your request, then deleted within 12 months unless we need them to resolve a dispute or meet a legal duty.
  • Google Analytics: user-level and event-level data is kept for the period set in our Google Analytics data retention settings, then deleted by Google. Aggregate reports may be kept longer.
  • Site backups: our backups may contain comment data and are kept for up to 30 days.
  • Advertising, Jetpack, Akismet, and hosting data: kept by those providers under their own policies, linked above.

Children’s privacy

This site is for job seekers and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, for example in a comment, contact us and we will delete it.

We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16.

Your privacy choices

  • Opt out of personalized Google ads at Google Ads Settings.
  • Opt out of other participating ad companies at www.aboutads.info.
  • Block Google Analytics with the opt-out add-on.
  • Block or delete cookies in your browser settings. We do not currently respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals.
  • Ask us to delete a comment or a message you sent us.

Your US state privacy rights

Depending on where you live, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, and other states with consumer privacy laws, you may have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we collect and how we use it.
  • Get a copy of your personal information.
  • Correct inaccurate personal information.
  • Delete your personal information.
  • Opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of your personal information, or its use for targeted advertising.
  • Not be treated differently for using these rights.

Do not sell or share my personal information: we do not sell personal information for money. Under California law and similar state laws, letting advertising partners such as Google collect information through cookies on our site to show personalized ads may count as “selling” or “sharing” personal information, or as targeted advertising. In the last 12 months, the categories involved were online identifiers (such as cookie IDs and IP address) and internet activity (such as pages viewed on this site), disclosed to advertising partners including Google.

To opt out, visit Google Ads Settings, use the “Do not sell or share my personal information” link on our site, or use the form on our Contact page.

To make any other request, use the form on our Contact page, choose the topic “Privacy request”, and tell us which state you live in. We will confirm receipt within 10 business days and respond within 45 days. Because we do not hold accounts, we may ask for details that help us match your request to the data we hold, such as the comment or message involved. You may use an authorized agent. If we deny your request, you can appeal by replying to our decision, and we will respond to the appeal within the time your state’s law requires.

We honor these requests from US visitors whether or not your state’s law requires it.

Visitors outside the United States

This site is run from the United States and written for US job seekers. If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, Google may ask for your consent before using cookies for ads. You can change your choice using the privacy settings option Google shows on our pages, or by clearing your cookies. Your information may be processed in the United States. You may also ask us to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you through the form on our Contact page.

Security

We use reasonable safeguards, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), spam filtering, and access controls on our site administration. No website can promise perfect security.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page when our practices change and revise the effective date at the top. If a change is significant, we will note it on this page.
